It has happened so many times, that now it just doesn’t affect me at all. Just like there are all those negative comments, there are way more positive ones, and that’s what I focus on.

What is a day in the life of @monapetre?
In the beauty/makeup aspect, I try to create new looks every day. I receive new products almost daily so I love creating looks with new beauty products and take product photos for my social media. Also, I love connecting with my fan base, so I try to reply back to everyone daily and try to answer all messages/questions they may have. Besides the beauty world, I work at a children’s clinic some days a week, and also just finished up an internship at the U.S. House of Representatives, which kept me busy.

How did your career begin in the world of beauty?
I started in the world of beauty when I was younger, about 15, when I pursued modeling school. I learned anything from makeup, walking the runway, acting, etiquette ect… That is when I really started getting into makeup seriously and started practicing since then.

Which celebrity would you love to do makeup for?

I would love to do makeup for Adriana Lima. Her face is obviously flawless, and I notice that in all her makeup looks, she is very simple, not heavy glam, and that is something I really love!

How would you describe your signature look?
Matte face, defined eyebrows, neutral eyes, natural looking lashes, and a nude lip. I’m very into simple nude looks.

What is your most memorable moment while doing someone’s makeup?

My most memorable moment was really funny actually! I was doing my clients makeup for her birthday, but she had just waxed her face a couple of days before, and when I started doing the contour, the shade looked so off from the backside of her face to the front. I stayed about 1 hour trying to correct the contour! I will always remember that!

What is the most important beauty advice that you can give to women?

Love the skin you’re in, whether with makeup on or not, love your natural beauty and be confident always!

What are some common beauty mistakes women make?

Mistakes that I see, that are the most common is mismatched foundation (on almost all cases too dark and not blended through the neck/jawline). Eyebrows appearing too dark as well.

Do you feel that looking and feeling beautiful is important in regard to a woman’s confidence?
I definitely feel that feeling beautiful and confident is important for a woman’s confidence. Otherwise, women wouldn’t be wasting money on skincare, makeup, and even Botox/surgery. We do these things to make us feel beautiful and confident, in my opinion.

Have you achieved all of your goals? If not what are they?
I have not yet achieved all of my goals. I think I will have goals throughout my whole life; when I have reached a goal, I’m sure I will have another to chase. Currently, my goals are to continue to build a name in the beauty industry and also pursue my Master’s degree.

Who has inspired you throughout your career?
Mario Dedivanovic has inspired me quite a lot throughout my makeup career. I remember watching his YouTube videos that he had from seminars, and within 5 minutes of a video, I would try to pick up anything I could. Also, I read a lot about his work online, on his personal website or other websites, read about his techniques, and what products he uses. I have yet to see him live, but I will one day. He is such an inspiration!

Do you see yourself one day creating your own line of makeup?
I do see myself creating my own makeup line. I want to have/build my own brand.

What are some of your favorite products?
I love Giorgio Armani foundations, Makeup Forever Concealers, Milani Cosmetics blushes, Huda Beauty lashes, MAC Cosmetics Mineralize Skin Finish Setting powders, Anastasia Beverly Hills Dibrow Pomade and ABH Contour Kit, (some faves).

Favorite concealer?
My favorite concealer is the Makeup Forever Camouflage palettes. Best coverage.

What should be a staple in every woman’s purse?
I always have a lip liner in my purse, I love lip liners; they last so long! My favorite is “Boldly Bare” by MAC Cosmetics.

Do you believe that less is more?
It really depends on the look you’re going for. To create a “simple” makeup look, you use about 15 products! With that said, I don’t think I believe that less is more. If you’re a glam girl, you’re putting all that makeup on, and if you’re not, you’re still putting makeup on. I believe that creating a flawless makeup look with less makeup is achievable; you don’t always have to go heavy with contouring or other techniques.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in getting into the beauty industry?
My advice is that if you’re serious about your art, never ever give up. Put your work out there, and try hard every day to make your dream come true. Confidence is key! We all have tried something and failed at it, or did not do a good enough job, but trying again and again is what makes everything worth it. In the beauty industry, you also have to have thick skin. Be ready for criticism.

How do you cleanse your skin?
First, to clean my skin (take all makeup off) I use the Neutrogena Cleansing wipes, then to cleanse my skin I use a Spin Brush (similar to a Clarasonic) and I use that with my Chanel cleanser. I do this daily. I use the Chanel Hydra Beauty crème (day) & serum (night) to moisturize.

Bullying on Instagram is something that happens all the time. How do you handle any negative comments?
Bullying on social media is definitely an issue and has progressed a lot within the last couple of years. I have definitely received a lot of negativity on my page, and I’ve learned that if you respond to it, it just gets worse. Now, I handle it by simply deleting the comments, and blocking that person who left the comment. I think that’s the best way to go about it to not let it affect me. It has happened so many times, that now it just doesn’t affect me at all. Just like there are all those negative comments, there are way more positive ones, and that’s what I focus on.

What is beauty to you?
Beauty to me is confidence. I think that if someone is confident in his or her self, it shows through and I just find that really beautiful.
