Updated 01/28/2016-  Since our first interview, Taren has become the official lash model for Lena Lashes!  She also is working on some top secret projects with Too Faced Cosmetics.  If you are not following her on Instagram you better start!!!!

What is a day in the life of @makeupbytaren?

I am a Housewife and stepmom to a 16 year old boy, first and foremost. I have a makeup studio at my house so I am usually there doing makeup for my clients or I am in my makeup room in my house doing makeup related stuff for Instagram.

How did you career begin in the world of beauty?

It began a little over a year ago when I started receiving so many comments on my makeup when I was out. So I started watching a lot of Youtube Videos and practicing on myself and others. I felt like it just came natural to me and a light bulb went off and I knew that makeup was my calling. Its my passion and I love everything about it.

Which celebrity would you love to do makeup for?

Sarah Jessica Parker. She is my role model and she has the strongest facial features, I just love her.

How would you describe your signature look?

I don’t know if I have a signature look per say… but, my no makeup makeup look received the most recognition on Instagram which is pretty crazy considering all of the cool makeup looks I have created.

What is your most memorable moment while doing someone’s makeup?

Oh my gosh, I was doing a girls makeup and just as I applied her foundation and highlighting and contouring, the power goes completely out. We were sitting in the dark trying to find our way around. I make it to the door, open it and pull the makeup chair to the door and proceed to finish her makeup. I had to pull another chair over to put all the makeup and makeup tools on it. It was one of the most complicated, yet entertaining makeup experiences. Plus we watched a snake slither through her tires, she got freaked out but, we laughed the entire time.

What is the most important beauty advice that you can give to women?

Take really good care of your skin first. The key to a great makeup application is clean, well managed skin. Wash your face, exfoliate, and moisturize daily. I cant express that enough to my clients.

What are some common beauty mistakes women make?

The main mistake I see women make is not believing something will look good on them. Its just makeup, it washes right off.

Do you feel that looking and feeling beautiful is important in regard to a woman’s confidence?

I believe everyone should feel confident with themselves no matter what. We were all made in our own special way. On the other hand, there is no better feeling than looking in the mirror after applying your makeup and feeling even more beautiful and confident.

Have you achieved all of your goals? If not what are they?

I am almost 27 so I know there is still much more waiting for me to experience, but I have everything I could ever ask for at this point in my life. I have a husband who loves and supports me, I have a beautiful home in the country that is my sanctuary, a loving and sweet stepson whom I love like he is my own son. My soul is complete and content!

Who has inspired you throughout your career?

I have always admired beauty from all over the world but the main person who has inspired me since I started my makeup venture is Jaclyn Hill. I first started out watching her youtube videos and I have been a supporter of her ever since. She has inspired so much of what I do. She is just such a beautiful person on the inside and out. I admire her courage to put up with all of the bullying she has experienced on social media as well as her life in general. I just feel connected to her in some way because I can relate to her in so many ways. Also, she is so goofy and funny just like me.

Do you see yourself one day creating your own line of makeup?

I have never explored that idea, that’s not something I would want to dive into. But, who knows what the future holds.

What are some of your favorite products?

First and foremost, brows are super important to me and I use none other than Anastasia Beverly Hills products. Also, some of my other favorite brands are FouFou Cosmetics lipsticks, Morphebrushes eyeshadow palettes, Gerard Cosmetics, Hourglass highlighters and bronzers, Too Faced, Benefit, Kat Von D, MAC, Clinique, and so many more!

  Favorite concealer?

I, personally, really love MAC Pro Longwear Concealer. It just really works for my skin. It doesn’t move or get cakey.

What should be a staple in every woman’s purse?

Lipstick or lipgloss. I feel so naked without one or the other.

Do you believe that less is more?

In certain aspects of life, I do believe that. But, when it comes to having makeup, more is more lol!

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in getting into the beauty industry?

My advice is to just simply  never give up or stop trying because that is when you ultimately fail. I cant tell you how many times I have thrown my makeup down and said forget it. But, then I say to myself, “If you don’t pick that eyeliner back up right now, then its truly over… So pick it back up and get it together.” Its all a process and you never stop learning or growing.

How do you cleanse your skin?

I start by taking my makeup off with Neutrogena makeup remover. Then, I exfoliate with Clinique 7 Day Scrub, cleanse using my Clarisonic Mia and Peter Thomas Roth Anti Aging Cleansing Gel, and moisturize with Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. At night I use a night cream by Lancome.

Bullying on Instagram is something that happens all the time. How do you handle any negative comments?

Bullying is such a huge part of Instagram and our society as a whole. I should know because I experienced harsh bullying in middle school when my hair fell out due to an auto immune disorder called Alopecia. For the most part, I just ignore it because it just fuels their fire. There are times where I have responded but, I feel like they should know they are hurting someone by saying ugly things to them. I wish there was more positivity and encouragement among society especially among women in the beauty industry.

 What is beauty to you?

Beauty, to me, is being able to look at yourself in the mirror and truly feel good about yourself. Whether it is with or without makeup is irrelevant because it goes much deeper than what we look like. It has to do with who we are as a person, how we carry ourselves, and how much we help other people. Someone who is kind-hearted, generous, humble, and helpful to others… well that’s pretty darn beautiful to me.
