Beauty to me is accepting and taking your imperfections as a unique ingredient for a perfect and beautiful self from the inside as well as the outside!

How did your career begin in the world of beauty?

I have always had an awe and obsession for makeup; since my teens I have been experimenting on my family and friends, but at that point I never realized that it would become such an integral part of my life. Time went by experimenting and having fun with doing looks on my family and friends, then through word of mouth I was offered to provide makeup tutorials to young students at a fashion institute in my home country – this is where it all actually started! After the tutorials at the institute, I went ahead with my own small private set up of offering makeup courses and makeup looks.

Then 8 years ago, I moved to Dubai permanently and continued with the same. Since I am a very private person and not very tech-savvy I never used to promote or publicize my looks or tutorials on any of the social media websites. After a lot of convincing and pressure from my family and friends, I was, and I am not going to lie to you, actually forced to start off my Instagram page. I was not too sure of how this would turn out, but here I am after a year of joining Instagram being given so much love and appreciation, with a huge fan following which has changed the dimensions of my career completely. And for this, I would like to give a big thank you to my family, friend, and followers and especially to my sister Ayesha Kapadia, who pushed me into this after starting her own Instagram!

Which celebrity would you love to do makeup for?

Now that’s a difficult one! For me, my celebrity list is made up of makeup artists! And if I have to give names then, first, without giving a second thought – Huda Kattan and of course Anastasia (Beverly Hills), Brian Champagne and Samer Khouzami.

How would you describe your signature look?

I love doing dramatic Arabic/glittery smoky eyes! I strongly believe that eyes are the most powerful tool of expression on ones face and my emphasis and favorite area of the face to work on are the eyes!

What is your most memorable moment while doing someone’s makeup?

For me, every time I do someone’s makeup, the entire experience is memorable to me.

What is the most important beauty advice that you can give to women?

“Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical.” – Sophia Loren.

Firstly, it is very important for a woman to love and feel good from the inside. Generally, when a woman looks in a mirror, rather than acknowledging what beauty she already holds within her consciously or sub-consciously only sees things that she wants to change in herself or she doesn’t like. Women sometimes forget that they are beautiful in one way or the other, moreover as rightly said by Havelock Ellis; “the absence of flaw in beauty is itself a flaw.”

Therefore, it is very important for a woman to first feel good from the inside; when you feel good from the inside, it reflects on your face, then comes the ‘canvas’ which is your face.

I would advise the ladies to always be happy, eat healthy, keep their skin well moisturized, have facials, and pamper it. When you love your skin, it loves you back; it is like a give and take relationship.

What are some common beauty mistakes women make?

One of the most crucial mistakes that women make is the selection of incorrect skin foundation. Women end up buying skin foundation of a shade which is one or two shades lighter than their original skin tone which as a result, after a while of application turns the skin tone grey. I always advise my students and clients to purchase a foundation one shade darker than their original skin tone.

There are many make up gurus on Youtube who have actually made videos to show how to choose the right foundation shade for all skin tone types.

One more thing, many females forget to apply the foundation on their necks, please always remember that when you apply foundation to you face apply it to your neck as well!

Do you feel that looking good and feeling beautiful is important in regards to a woman’s confidence?

Yes, as said earlier, feeling good and beautiful from the inside is in reality the building block of a woman’s confidence. I believe it all comes down to an individual’s perception. It is exorbitantly important to feel good, and looking good is just having a cherry on top, which will again only happen if we feel good from the inside! Confidence, for me is something that stems out of your inner love for oneself and contentment.

Have you achieved all your goals? If not, what are they?

Nope, the ladder is never ending! I am still working on them and getting there, slowly and gradually!

My goal is to set up my very own makeup and grooming institute which would be a platform for women to educate themselves in the areas of self grooming, self confidence and mastering the art of makeup!

Who has inspired you throughout your career?

My first and the only inspiration is my mother! I have grown up gazing at her doing her hair, her eyes, her lips, taking care of her skin so intricately that I used to enter into a world of perfection when I used to see her dressing up-without any amazement, this is still the case!

Funnily enough, she still manages to pick out flaws in my looks!

Do you see yourself one day creating your own line of makeup?

Of course yes!

Huda Lashes

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Contour Kit and Dip Brow

Illamasqua

Lancome

What should be a staple in every woman’s purse?

Do you believe that less is more?

Definitely yes!

What advise would you give to someone who is interested in getting into beauty industry?

I would advise them to:

Believe in yourself

Work with passion

Love what you do

Come out of your comfort zone and try out new things

Most of all, DO NOT give up!

This is something which I do till date!!!

How do you cleanse your skin?

I use the following products:

Dermalogica Clearing Skin Wash (sensitive skin)

Chanel face mask once a week

Chanel day and night moisturizing cream followed by Chanel serum

Bullying on Instgram is something that happens all the time, how do you handle negative comments?

It is very simple; a person spreading negativity on my page is blocked for life! I do not have any room for negatively in any part of my life – I am a positive person who is very open to constructive criticism, but negativity is a big CROSS!

What is beauty to you?

Beauty to me is accepting and taking your imperfections as a unique ingredient for a perfect and beautiful self from the inside as well as the outside!
