Glossygirl Sinead here coming to you with some top tips on prepping your skin for fall. Yes girls fall is here and for the most part it is in full swing, unless of course we have any readers from Oz where it is in fact heating up, comment below telling us where some of our lovely readers are from. Fall is the best season largely because the plummeting temperatures allow us to put down our razors and no longer have to go through shaving our legs almost every other day. Of course though there are benefits to the new season such as a license to add to our already full wardrobes. But our skin can definitely take a battering. The cold air, the high winds, the rain and the loss of daylight hours can all affect our skin negatively.
First things first though you may not consider it, your hair needs some TLC from time to time. I recommend buying a hair mask or oil like Physicians Formula Argan Wear Illuminating Oil, ($14.99, Ulta). Massage into your hair before showering, leave it in for as long as recommended on the jar and if it’s a hair oil leave it to soak in your hair for several hours, the longer it is given to soak into your hair the better it will work, but don’t over do it. If your hair is dyed make sure you use a shampoo and conditioner combo that are specifically for coloured hair such as Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Shampoo & Conditioner Combo, ($7.49, Walgerens). Otherwise use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner, herbal essences have several available.
We have all had our fair share of different body lotions and body butters but have you ever tried body balms? Body balm is something that has just recently hit the shelves here and is a happy medium between butter and lotion. It is super moisturizing like butter but much easier to work into your skin and takes only a short time to absorb much like lotions. A good jar of body balm is a must this fall try the Astral Original All Over Moisturiser, (£7.99 at Boots.com) or one of the Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Nourishing Body Balm with Nordic Berry, (£4.29 at Boots.com) for affordable and hydrating skin care.
Keeping your skin clean is a must all year round but is especially satisfying in the Fall and Winter seasons. So after a long hard week of work or study grab yourself some pore strips, a charcoal face mask and soak in a relaxing hot bath. Don’t forget to use your favourite body scrub to slup off any of those old skin cells and replenish your skin. Using a coffee bean scrub is the height of the best body care lately and is definitely worth it, leaving your skin refreshed and radiant. Try using Clean & Clear Exfoliating Daily Wash, (£3.10 at Boots.com) or Sanctuary 5min Thermal Detox Mask, (£10.50 at Boots.com).
4.Skin Care Part Deux
Winter, spring, summer or fall SPF is a must! It doesn’t matter if it’s behind the clouds or freezing cold there is no lotion or potion that can turn back time so take every step possible to prevent damage to your skin and slow the aging process. Simply switch your daily face lotion for one with an SPF of at least 15. Nivea has several moisturizers available with SPF as do brands such as Clinique, Simple and Garnier. Try Nivea Daily Essentials Light Moisturising Day Cream For Normal to Combination Skin SPF15, (£3.99 at Boots.com) or Simple Kind To Skin Protecting Light Moisturizer SPF 15, ($12.99 at Ulta).
Of course Fall is a season that can reap havoc on our poor skin so maximize the hydration in your daily skin care routine. Each night before getting our all important beauty sleep (creams and makeup can only do so much, am I right girls?) apply an eyecream under and around your eye area to prevent any dryness. Apply a generous layer of night cream, the astral face and body moisturizer can also work for this. Pop on some super hydrating lip balm and finally use plenty of hand cream to prevent dry and cracked hands.
Walking in hard soled boots can definitely put pressure on your feet. Dry cracked heels are not something to be concerned about just during sandal season. Ensure your feet are kept pristine with an at home pedicure scrub and moisturize your feet to your heart’s content until they are soft and supple.
Enjoy the crispy leaves on the ground and the satisfying crunch they make when your boots hit the ground, or when you jump through a big pile of them because yes we all do that and we all enjoy doing that. Have a fabulous Fall!
